Things to Do on Straddie

Whether you're making a weekend of it or just sneaking in a few hours around the wedding, North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) is packed with beautiful spots and relaxed coastal charm. Here are some of our favourite things to do:

Take in the views at Point Lookout

You'll already be here for the wedding, but it's worth exploring properly. Keep an eye out for dolphins, turtles, and rays!

Walk the North Gorge Walk

An easy and incredibly scenic coastal walk with panoramic ocean views. One of the best places on the island for wildlife spotting.

Relax at Cylinder Beach

Perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or just unwinding. It's one of the safest and most beautiful beaches on the island.

Visit Brown Lake (Bummiera)

A peaceful freshwater lake surrounded by tea trees. The water gets its colour from natural tannins—don't let that fool you, it's beautifully calm and perfect for a relaxing swim or picnic.

Explore Blue Lake (Karboora)

A stunning, crystal-clear freshwater lake and a site of deep cultural significance. Swimming isn't permitted, but the walk and scenery are absolutely worth it.

Snorkelling & scuba diving

Explore Straddie's incredible underwater world! There are local operators offering snorkelling tours, gear hire, and scuba diving experiences—perfect for beginners or experienced divers.

Go fishing or surfing

If you're feeling active, bring a rod or hire a board—Straddie has some great surf spots.

Café hopping

Point Lookout has some great little cafés for coffee, brunch, or a post-beach bite.

Visit the Straddie Hotel

A laid-back pub with ocean views—perfect for a casual drink (and where we'll be continuing celebrations after the reception!).

FAQ

How do you get to North Stradbroke Island?

With a car: Drive to Cleveland and take the vehicle ferry (barge) across to Dunwich. From there, it's about a 20-minute drive to Point Lookout. Sealink runs multiple services daily, 7 days a week.

Without a car: Catch the passenger ferry from Cleveland to Dunwich. Once on the island, you can take a bus, taxi, or arrange transfers to your accommodation at Point Lookout. The Stradbroke Flyer and Sealink Passenger Ferry run frequently throughout the day and connect with public buses on arrival.

What options are there for accommodation?

From beach houses and holiday rentals to apartments and resorts, there's something to suit all group sizes and budgets. Many properties are within walking distance to beaches, cafés, and the main wedding locations.

We recommend booking early, as February is a popular time on the island and availability can fill up quickly.

A few places to start:

  • Airbnb & Stayz Ideal for private homes and group stays — perfect if you're travelling with friends or family.
  • Discover Stradbroke A local agency with a wide range of holiday homes and apartments, from couples' stays to larger group houses. accommodationstradbroke.com.au

What are the wedding day transport options?
  • A shuttle bus will be provided from the ceremony at Home Beach to the reception venue.
  • At the end of the night, the shuttle will also take guests from the reception back to their accommodation.
What happens between the ceremony and the reception?

There will be roughly 1 hour between the ceremony and reception.

  • We'll have some casual beach games set up if you'd like to stay, relax, and mingle.
  • Alternatively, you're very welcome to head back, freshen up, and meet us at the reception.
Is the reception adults-only?

Yes — due to venue capacity constraints, our reception will be an adults-only celebration.

We absolutely understand this may require a little extra planning, and we really appreciate your understanding. We hope this gives everyone a great opportunity to relax and enjoy a fun night together.

What is the dress code?

Our dress code is 'beach formal' — an elegant yet relaxed coastal style. We encourage guests to dress in light, breathable fabrics suited to a warm, seaside setting.

  • Men: collared shirts, linen or lightweight suits, chinos or tailored trousers, and dress shoes or loafers.
  • Women: cocktail dresses, maxi dresses, or elegant separates.

Some areas may be on sand or grass, so appropriate footwear such as wedges, flats, or dress sandals is recommended.

Reception wrap-up & after party
  • Our reception venue requires us to wrap up by 10:00pm.
  • If you're keen to keep the celebrations going, head to the Straddie Hotel — just a 500m walk from the reception.
